Maintaining a Car

Too many people assume that maintaining their car is too difficult and they leave it to their mechanic. The truth is, there are lots of simple jobs you can do to your car to keep it running in perfect condition and you could save yourself hundreds of pounds every year.

Tyres

Most tyres have tread depth indicators which will indicate when a tyre is becoming unsafe to be used. Driving with a bald tyre is illegal and the police and fine you and give you 3 points on your license.

It's also a good idea to check their pressure regularly as under/over inflated tyres can have a negative effect on your petrol consumption, it can also increase your stopping distance.

Wiper Blades

Fitting a new set of wiper blades is one of the cheapest things you can do your car, but you need to make sure you buy the right size. Most Halfords will have a flipchart telling you what you'll need, if you're not sure ask one of the staff, they'll be more than happy to help.

A split wiper blade will cause your car to fail its MOT and then you'll have to pay garage prices (which can be more than double).
