Green motoring is not possible in UK in 2007

Ken Livingstone goes on about banning 4x4s and other anti-motorist headline grabbing statements but the reality is that green motoring is a distant dream. Whilst some manufacturers such as Honda and BMW have developed hydrogen cars, there is currently only one hydrogen filling station in the UK (BP - Hornchurch).

Hydrogen cars are ready for production and cut emissions to negligible levels, in fact the only thing emitted from a hydrogen propelled car is steam! If the government is serious about cutting emissions therefore, it should concentrate on encouraging filling stations to go with a hydrogen option. No filling options means no likelihood of selling the cars; the Hornchurch hydrogen station is likely to close at the end of its trial period in 2007.

As suppliers of car insurance we recognise that we have a duty to encourage motorists to be environmentally aware. We are simply frustrated that politicians such as Ken Livingstone are more interested in grabbing headlines than changing anything.
